There is a case where auditory and visual signals overlap, causing the visualisation of sounds, a phenomenon close to the auditory-visual synaesthesia.
Synaesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. Synaesthesia can occur between nearly any two senses or perceptual modes.
Auditory-visual synaesthesia is one of the most common types of synaesthesia and covers a variety of experiences, where inducers include, amongst others, general sounds, musical notes, instruments, the human voice and concurrents can be colours, shapes, textures, positions, movements.
Smultronställe is the visualisation of a recording collection from my early adulthood. The recordings aimed to explain meanings behind concepts, perceptions and sensations I experienced while not in the comfort of silence.
